The Republic of North Macedonia is a state on the Balkan Peninsula. The name of the country comes from the ancient kingdom of Macedon (Greek: Μακεδόνες). The capital of the Republic is the city of Skopje. It is home to the Millennium Cross, which was built to mark the 2000th anniversary of the Baptism of Macedonia. It is the tallest cross in the world (66 meters high). There are many attractions in Skopje: Macedonia Square, Opera and Ballet Theater, St. Demetrius Church, Ciftë Hammam and others.

The official language of the Republic of North Macedonia is Macedonian. It is the youngest of the Slavic literary languages. The writing system is Cyrillic, the alphabet consists of 31 letters.
