The Slovenian language is an Indo-European language belonging to the group of West Slavic languages. The main region of its functioning is Slovenia, and the number of Slovenian speakers is about 2 million.
The Slovenian language is divided into 48 dialects. The Slovenian language resembles a mixture of archaic Russian and German. However, a Russian-speaking person can mostly even read Slovenian. At least, there will most likely be no problems with the inscriptions on shop windows.
If you see the word “pozor” on a sign in Slovenia, don’t be surprised. “Pozor means “attention” in Slovenian.
To be fair, Slovenian has some similarities with Russian, and in general it is somewhat similar to Old Slavonic. It is not without reason that it is considered one of the most archaic languages in the world – it is difficult to learn it at a good level, and the process is further complicated by numerous borrowings from German.
