Turkmen

Turkmen is spoken by about 7 million people worldwide. The main region where the language is spoken is Turkmenistan, as well as small areas in Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia.

Today, the Turkmen language uses Latin characters for writing, and until 2000, the pound (£), yen (¥), and dollar ($) symbols were even included in the alphabet as letters.

The name of the capital, Ashgabat, means “city” in Persian, was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1948 and was completely rebuilt. It is currently listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most white marble city in the world.
